Armadillo's Still At It
John Carmack's aerospace efforts are still ongoing, despite missing the X-Prize competition. Personally, it sounds to me like they are doing a lot of trial and error, trial and error, ... and more trial and error. I'm not sure they'll ever get off the ground.
