Hellboy Movie Trailer
Check it out over here. I'm not much acquainted with Hellboy. Not a comic fan. So from the perspective of someone who knows nothing of this franchise, it looks to me like an X-Men wanna-be, with all the usual cliches, but slightly more interesting characters and creatures.

3D Arcade Simulator for MAME and More
This may be old news, but only recently has my interest in MAME been rekindled. There are a variety of nice "front ends" for MAME and other emulators, and the nicest of the bunch (IMO) has to be FE-3DARCADE. This front end has a fully 3D "arcade" with game machines. The game machines are then used to launch the game emulation. This front end is even so flexible that people can model their own custom arcades.

Online Version of Infocom's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Quite by accident I found this Java version of the classic Infocom text adventure. It's based on the books by Douglas Adams, and was co-designed by Steve meretsky. To the uninitiated in the world of text adventures: The game is entirely text based, like a book. You can navigate the world and advance the plot, and do actions through typing out sentences. Even for its time, this game was advanced enough to understand advanced boolean sentence structures. (ie: "Take the satchel and then put the satchel on the table"). Whereas other similar games could only understand one or two words at a time (ie: "Take Satchel").
It may seem primitive but these games really made you use your noggin. I also loved how the game came with lots of goodies to compensate for the lack of graphics and sound. This one in particular came with a red "don't panic!" button, a cotton ball (representing some sort of fluff that is an integral object in the game), a small empty baggy with a label that claimed it contained a microscopic space battlecruiser (har har), and more.

Please Help Save This Endangered Species
This is a serious matter folks. While we waste our time and money on friviolous things like video games and bad movies, real life out there demands attention. It's too easy to overlook and downplay the impact of humanity's toll on nature, the world, the animals. Won't somebody please think of the animals? Help save this endangered species.
Next-Gen Xbox at GDC?
From Gamesindustry.biz comes an article that peeks of the next generation Xbox may be unveiled in Spring 2004 at the Gamer's Development Conference. From the article, 'CVG was first out of the blocks with a story stating that Microsoft will show its next console, allegedly codenamed Xenon, at the Game Developers Conference in San Jose next March - ahead of Sony unveiling the PS3 at E3 in May.' However, it would seem that the PS3 technology will not be, and Sony will concentrate on promoting the PSP.

Skype
Here's something interesting. A new endeavour from the creators of Kazaa Skype offers users free peer to peer CALLING! Just watch the phone companies start to sue over this one. Well, they won't sue... but I'll bet the government will want regulations on it because they want eavesdropping capabilities.

Super Mario Parody Made by a Monkey
OK file this under "stupid web shit", but I find it damn funny. First, it's a website made by a monkey. As if that weren't hilarious enough, it's got a crude but entertaining Flash animation. Watch it. Watch it all. I just love that "sung" Super Mario Bros soundtrack. Hee hee!

From Slashdot comes news that Nokia's N-Gage has been hacked. N-Gage games can be played on any other cellphone with J2ME system. Well, this is probably the nail in the coffin for this system. Who'd want to develop for them now that the games can be hacked? More info on the news groups. UPDATE: Comments from Nokia.
